3SOMS = 3rd Sunday Of Month Swim

Timed anti-clockwise early morning swim .
Choice of Long or Short route.
Challenging yet Fun (without or with a wetsuit)
Participants are affectionately known as  'Tri-bears' .

Please note !

Sea conditions are variable (and with technology, forecasts are more accurate) however there are just those days when Cherry reef is working and its just not a good idea to swim there.. or the forecast swell is >4m ...on these days a more controlled swim is possible and the multiple routes have been mapped to ensure a swim will take place. The route will be confirmed at the briefing.

Meet

Meet at Clifton 4th early..shhh everyone is asleep, 
Sign-in at recorder's desk (indicating race number),
Acclimatise while awaiting the race briefing,

Listen

Listen to the race briefing and take note of any route changes,
High-five the headcount controllers,
Pose for a Group pic,
Under Starters Orders.. 

Waves of 10-15 a minute apart.

Swim

Swim the demarcated route (and listen to any instruction from water safety team),

Take sequenced finish-tag to recorder's desk,

Add another discipline before breakfast..

THE ROUTE WILL BE CONFIRMED AT THE BRIEFING

Sea conditions are variable and multiple routes have been mapped to ensure a swim will take place. 

3SOMS-Preferred Long Route

This swim is challenging..
Swim around the course keeping the buoys on your left shoulder. The route is from 4th to 1st and back. Timing stops when you pass the finish line on the beach

After the self-seeded wave start on the beach, enter the shallows and aim for the red roof house above the wide block of flats on Moses beach

(After the deep left-shoulder turn)
Aim for Duiker Rocks (aka South Paw).. 
Expect heavy water.. you are swimming back into the swell and will be swimmining up small mountains

3SOMS - short routes (400m|680m)

400m clockwise

Starting on the beach .. out to the deep buoy.. keep the buoy on the right shoulder and continue right around the course.  Turn right and the next deep buoy and head back to the shallow buoy. Right turn at the shallow buoy and swim parallel to the beach to the next shallow buoy. Left-hand turn  towards the beach.

680m out-and-reverse

Starting on the beach .. out to the deep buoy.. keep the buoy on the right shoulder and continue right around the course. Turn right and the next deep buoy and head back to the shallow buoy. Right turn at the shallow buoy and swim parallel to the beach to the next shallow buoy. Left-hand 180' turn around the buoy and reverse direction around the course. !!Watch out for swimmers in the opposite direction!!
